Electroformed big hole soft glass beads
(
Mr.Smiley
)
I recently got into electroforming. I love it and will be doing more. I wanted these to look as if they had been resting on the ocean floor. I was born in the keys and I have a thing for reefs and underwater treasures.

Lost Civilization Series
(
AshtonJewels
)
I LOVE ANCIENT WORLD HISTORY so much that I used to study it just for fun. The idea of lost civilization intrigued me most. Of course there are no pictures of these presumed lost places, but my mind's eye can see them.
This series of beads is based on my idea of what lies undiscovered on the Mediterranean floor. That is why I choose iridescent blue and green glass. It provides an aquatic like backdrop for the motifs that would have likely graced the walls of a lost piece of architecture.
I imagine that this series will continue to grow because I truly have a passion for the concept.

Mahakala, the Protector
(
Angelinabeadalina
)
These are a touch scary and ugly! All the better for protecting against all things evil, don't ya think? I googled Tibetan art and found Mahakala, chief dharmapala (protector of Buddhist teachings) and the ferocious face on masks hung in Tibetan homes as protection against evil. Talk about scary and magnificent at the same time! You've probably seen these masks-- absolute wonders of art packed into a face full of symbolism. His wrathful expression comes from the energy released as he cuts through powerful obstacles. The five skulls in his headress represent victory over five emotional obscurations. His third eye symbolizes the wisdom of omniscience-- and adds to the u-g-l-y factor. Google images of Mahakala, and see for yourself, okay? I can't possibly begin to tell his story. Just like I discovered I can't possibly begin to recreate those masks. . . but I kind like what I did get when I tried!

Trees
(
AnnaDuhame
)
I am so in love with trees! I have always felt this way. Later, I discovered that my maiden name is actually derived from the Gaelic
"Darragh" which means "oak"...it was only fate that I should make trees!

Food For Thought

When on the South Beach diet and unable to eat those nasty greasy little treats or sink your teeth into a sweet and drippy chocolate covered icecream why not just make these little treats out of glass? No reason why not!

Spring & Summer Beads - 2007
(

My little gallery has grown by leaps and bounds over the past few months. Please pardon my inability to be organized. . .I'm an artist. lol
This particular gallery features the work that I have been doing since we kicked off 2007'. Please pardon the mess, as soon as I have time I'll clean it up a bit.

The hippie chick!
(
SheilaMorley
)
Being a hippie...It has a fun "style". I really want to try out tye dyes with glass. We'll see. I made some dot beads that looked really cool. I thought, that looks kinda like a tye dye! So, why not? Then it became more about NOT burnnig the skin or the shirt. Building up or reducing...And, using my murrini. I see what Loren Stump was saying..."Before you know it murrinies were everywhere!"
(Don't worry Loren. She is crack free and introduced two times! And! No wafting! ;))
Peace!

Another tribal mask with large hole donuts. This one's done in a lovely odd lot of glass with streaks. Someone reminded me that this one looks like malachite.

~Viper~
(
Fyrebeadz
)
Ramesses III was the second Pharaoh of the 20th Dynasty and is considered to be the last great New Kingdom king to wield any substantial authority over Egypt. Some have put forth a hypothesis that a snakebite from a viper was the cause of the king's death but this proposal has not been proven. It is also known that he lived as long as about 2 weeks after the assassination attempt. His mummy includes a protective amulet to protect Ramesses III in the afterlife from a snakebite, which is very unusual for a pharaoh. The servant in charge of his food and drink was among the listed conspirators, but there were also some conspirators called the snake and the lord of snakes that might have been the most responsible. Perhaps his amulet is similar to this one I made. If you notice the snake like coils going around the bead. The pattern is even snake-like. And in keeping with the gestures for the kings of that era, this has been lined with copper electroforming to represent the gold which the Egyptian's so loved. I gave it a quick bath in a patina so that it has an antique look about it. March 2007

Twisted Whiskers!
(
AnnaDuhame
)
My cats have been evolving! I have wanted to put whiskers on my cats since I started making them, but couldn't get consitent results. The other day when rummaging through my "stuff" I found a spool of niochrome high temperature wire...BINGO! It is applied into the cheeks while hot. Any loose pieces are secured with two part expoxy resin. These guys have a lot of character. I can't wait to make more!!!

Nefertiti Traverses the Sands of Little Egypt
(
Angelinabeadalina
)
Nefertiti has come to Little Egypt. The Queen chooses to see what this "little" Egypt in southern Illinois might offer. She has heard of many things that might please her, many ways of this land that pay homage to her land. This will be our travel journal for the next week or so, however long it might please the regal beauty to explore with me. The heat is almost unbearable here in southern Illinois this week, and since gas costs a bit more than camel feed we may not journey all the way south to Cairo...but we will entertain you!
