Tiny Toad Beads

(TerriMayStudios)
Toads are very interesting symbols in most cultures. Abundance, transformation, and longevity are some of their most appealing attributes.

Hi... they were believed to carry a stone in their head which was purported to be a universal medicine.

Lost Civilization Series

(AshtonJewels)
I LOVE ANCIENT WORLD HISTORY so much that I used to study it just for fun. The idea of lost civilization intrigued me most. Of course there are no pictures of these presumed lost places, but my mind's eye can see them.

This series of beads is based on my idea of what lies undiscovered on the Mediterranean floor. That is why I choose iridescent blue and green glass. It provides an aquatic like backdrop for the motifs that would have likely graced the walls of a lost piece of architecture.

I imagine that this series will continue to grow because I truly have a passion for the concept.

Pond flowers...

(Anastasia)
...In spring water plants start to grow at the bottom...and if the water is clear, you can see them, like an underwater garden, growing higher and higher, until they reach the surface and start to bloom. It´s like some pre-spring down there...

...Another version of the flame beads I started to work on recently...this is the fifth of the series... inspired by the flame I´m looking into while working...

Purple Orchids

(GlassJewels)
The base of this bead is made with black glass and various frits and enamels. I then put a strand of bright yellow swirling around it and encased it in a very thin layer of clear glass. A single purple orchid plant sits on the surface.
This bead was sold on eBay.

Briar Rose

(Ellyloo)
I've been having fun making really sweet flowers... and all the time thinking about Sleeping Beauty's castle, as she lay sleeping. All of these roses surrounding the brick walls and the filling the air and creeping over the ground must have made for a beautiful and riotous display, visible for miles-especially on a sunny day.

Teacup

(Ellyloo)
I call these teacup beads, because they remind me of the pattern you find on old teacups. I've left the pattern raised for the fingers to have some interest.

Spectral Torpedo

A coil-potted and blown bi-cone with a cobalt blue base. A nice spectrum of color, created with clear glass, amber-purple and selective heating/striking used to bring out different colors along the length of the bead..

Enamel on Glass

(GeltDesigns)
Creating my beads takes hours and many steps. I begin by creating lamp worked frits and stringers. These are used to construct the detail of the bead. I combine frits and strings with enamels to both the surface and in between three stacked layers of compatible glass to create a picture. The glass is fired in a kiln until fused and then carefully annealed. The first firing takes several hours.

Once removed from the first firing, the hole and edges of the fused glass bead are shaped and smoothed. I smooth out the hole using a flex shaft and diamond bit. I create the shape of the bead with a diamond or tile saw. These saws leave the edges rough; so I next use various glass grinders to smooth the edges. Glass moves in the first firing so the picture I created is not precise. I add a second layer of enamel on the surface of the bead to enhance depth and design. The bead is fired a second time. The second firing has three purposes: (1) to “fire polish” the edges of the bead until it is smooth, (2) to fire m

I got my new XL lentil press a couple weeks ago and this bead is the 2nd one I have made with it. Also the star cane flowers are the first time I have done those. Overall, I am very pleased with the bead and necklace. I strung it together in about 30 minutes using Bali silver, faceted Turquoise, faceted Amethyst, faceted Rock Crystal, Swarovski crystals and, of course, my big lentil focal. I also made a bracelet to match. Think I'll keep this one for a long time! I love it!

Ahhhh, gloriously large focals. These are new for me since I've been primarily a set person. Why didn't I do it sooner? The larger focals allow for so much more detail to shine through and they really ARE tiny masterpieces. I know...sounds corny. You just wait until you see them in person for yourself! I'm in a Monet kick right now and have just started a series of 250...although, would you call it a series if they're all different? Well, I do. Maybe I'll start a new trend.

Ganesha, the Hindu god of Success, Peace, & Wisdom

(Angelinabeadalina)
*9-6-06 Just added another Ganesha...This little journey started with a teenager's request for a peace sign and a yin yang sign. Searching for a yin yang sign to look at, I opened John Bowker's book GOD A Brief History. On the way to the Tao section, I saw beautiful Hindu and Buddhist paintings and sculptures. The color combinations were intoxicating, and the textures were so rich. The Hindu god with the elephant's head seemed particularly ornate. He's Ganesha, and he brings success, peace, and wisdom. Voila', another peace sign! Here are my versions of an abstract line drawing of Ganesha:
