Masks
(

I just love masks, they are simply facinating. Mystical, magical and extremely important within the cultures where they are still used. I have several ideas for mask designs and this is where I will post them.

My original focals gallery is getting a bit full so I've opened a new one for my latest work. My style is also continually changing and evolving and doesn't seem to fit with the earlier pieces.

Mountain Meadow
(
GlassJewels
)
Colorful wild flowers dance in the sunshine on the mountain meadows. A crystal clear lake, pine trees and snow-topped mountains can be seen out in the distance. The depth of images in this bead is stunning! I can't wait until summer when we go back to visit the Colorado Rockies again.
This bead is currently for sale on eBay at

Atlantis Necklace May 19, 2006

I got my new XL lentil press a couple weeks ago and this bead is the 2nd one I have made with it. Also the star cane flowers are the first time I have done those. Overall, I am very pleased with the bead and necklace. I strung it together in about 30 minutes using Bali silver, faceted Turquoise, faceted Amethyst, faceted Rock Crystal, Swarovski crystals and, of course, my big lentil focal. I also made a bracelet to match. Think I'll keep this one for a long time! I love it!

I had SO much Kronos that I hadn't needed to buy any in a long time. I accented this trio with Kronos 2, which is a bit different. I also used the last of my Terra on this trio. . . :-( BOOHOO!!!!!

Enamel on Glass
(
GeltDesigns
)
Creating my beads takes hours and many steps. I begin by creating lamp worked frits and stringers. These are used to construct the detail of the bead. I combine frits and strings with enamels to both the surface and in between three stacked layers of compatible glass to create a picture. The glass is fired in a kiln until fused and then carefully annealed. The first firing takes several hours.
Once removed from the first firing, the hole and edges of the fused glass bead are shaped and smoothed. I smooth out the hole using a flex shaft and diamond bit. I create the shape of the bead with a diamond or tile saw. These saws leave the edges rough; so I next use various glass grinders to smooth the edges. Glass moves in the first firing so the picture I created is not precise. I add a second layer of enamel on the surface of the bead to enhance depth and design. The bead is fired a second time. The second firing has three purposes: (1) to “fire polish” the edges of the bead until it is smooth, (2) to fire m

Lori Greenberg Focal Beads

Ahhhh, gloriously large focals. These are new for me since I've been primarily a set person. Why didn't I do it sooner? The larger focals allow for so much more detail to shine through and they really ARE tiny masterpieces. I know...sounds corny. You just wait until you see them in person for yourself! I'm in a Monet kick right now and have just started a series of 250...although, would you call it a series if they're all different? Well, I do. Maybe I'll start a new trend.

Ganesha, the Hindu god of Success, Peace, & Wisdom
(

*9-6-06 Just added another Ganesha...This little journey started with a teenager's request for a peace sign and a yin yang sign. Searching for a yin yang sign to look at, I opened John Bowker's book GOD A Brief History. On the way to the Tao section, I saw beautiful Hindu and Buddhist paintings and sculptures. The color combinations were intoxicating, and the textures were so rich. The Hindu god with the elephant's head seemed particularly ornate. He's Ganesha, and he brings success, peace, and wisdom. Voila', another peace sign! Here are my versions of an abstract line drawing of Ganesha:

Temples 2: Evolving Series
(
Angelinabeadalina
)
Throughout history, famous temples have been destroyed, only to be rebuilt even more elaborately. Well, I didn't destroy my first Temple beads, but I've built some more and they are getting better! The Japanese built a Shinto shrine called Horyuji in the year 607 AD, but its buildings were made of wood and burned in the year 670 AD. The rebuilt wooden shrine's main hall, called the Kondo, was still standing in 2002. I'll bet when I look it up, I'll find it is still standing, a timeless tribute to the Way of the Kami. The tribes of Abraham have their temples, too. Herod the Great rebuilt the Temple around 37 BC. It was even more ornate than the original. It was a monument to the holiness of Yahweh, who was so holy that no one except one priest entered the most sacred temple once a year. Christians say GOD now, but once his name was so holy it wasn't even pronounced. . .and temples were tributes to this holiness. I can't wait to try to recreate Herod's Temple in glass, because just like the Asian

This bead just evolved in the flame. I had no idea what I was going to do, it just happened and WOW, I am sure glad it did! This is 1 1/2 inches in diameter and well over 1/2 inch thick. It reminds me of old leather saddles and a great pair of comfy old cowboy boots. This one is a keeper and is going nowhere but into my jewlery chest!
