Andie's Glass - Hollow Beads

(AndiesGlass)
Andie's Glass
Athens, Georgia

Hollow beads have become my favorite kind of bead to make. They took a lot of time to perfect, but it was worth it. If you are interested, I have a tutorial on my website at http://www.andies...

Everyone seems to like the large size and light weight of the hollow beads. Here are some of my new heart shaped hollows.

Ancient Vessel

(BeadsByFirefly)
This is my first attempt in combining glass & Precious Metal Clay. Unfortunately, the vessel cracked, but I really like the results.

this necklace was a custom order, so it's no longer available, but I think it really shows off my style! I have a fondness for making hollows, and while this neckace has a lot going on, it's still very light and easy to wear.
Podifacts

Podifacts

(Artificer)
I really enjoy working with hollow glass, and the podifact series is my latest expression of this form of bead. Combining transparent glasses with empty spaces and reactive surface elements really brought this series together for me.

The resulting beads have both organic and mechanical elements, hence the name - a hybrid between seed pods and artifacts.

2007 Hollows--- Palms

I only have a couple different hollows here....the other hollow has two beads inside.

The hollow focal bead was made for a Survivor bead game at WC. And because my guy won Survivor, I got the bead stash and my beads.
Way to go YUL!!

Sculpted Vessels: Part 1

Sculpted Vessels: Part 1

(Angelinabeadalina)
The hits, the misses. The ones I'm proud of, the ones that'll never step their little bodies out the door of my house. You know I love to sculpt, but having never really practiced hollows much, this is a strange obsession for me! Truth be known, I'm proud as I can be of each one as it comes out of the kiln. . . it's not real easy to keep that much glass warm through two detailed steps (sculpting plus the hollow). Even more of a challenge has been learning to do the faces "upside down". I usually work chin to forehead, left to right on the mandrel, but the hollow and the enclosed end of these vessels needs to be at the right end of the mandrel. Well, anyway, I'll keep ya posted on the progress:

Since taking a class with Tink Martin, I've spent a lot of time working to perfect the techniques and creating my own style...basically whatever takes me at the moment.

Hollow beads for me are a refreshing change than what I normally make. I love the simplicity in letting the beautiful transparent glass stand alone in these large beads.
Venetian Pepper Mill

Venetian Pepper Mill

(BeckyCongdon)
This "Venetian Pepper Mill" was made for the ConneXtions Exhibit/Show. ConneXtions is a joint venture between AAW (Association of American Woodturners) and ISGB (International Society of Glass Beadmakers).
My husband (Shaun Congdon) did the wood turning and assembly here. It is maple and zebra wood and it was only the 2nd time he ever turned. Not bad!!
I did the hollow beads in filigrana as the pepper. The top of the pepper mill is a hollow fish bead (tried to make him look Venetian!). I made all the glass beads using moretti. For more information on the exhibit please see http://www.woodtu...
