Let These Ears Hear What My Soul Is Saying: Labyrinth Goddess Statue * Featured Page *

Let These Ears Hear What My Soul Is Saying: Labyrinth Goddess Statue

(Angelinabeadalina)
"Let these ears of mine hear what my soul is saying to me as I walk this labyrinth, this journey within..." That's what this goddess seemed to be saying as I watched her come to life in the flame. Oh, not literally, you know. It's just that sometimes you can see a personality developing for a piece even as you are melting the glass. This one seemed to want to remind me that we should all practice listening, including listening to what our soul is trying to tell us as we journey through life. For me, this goddess is a goddess of the labyrinth, a higher power graciously willing to guide us through the labyrinth. The labyrinth pattern that wraps around her is complete, so that you can trace it inward and outward.

The Goddess in the Maple Tree

(Angelinabeadalina)
There are many maple trees in our backyard, but one in particular always catches my eye. This tree has a lovely silhouette that reminds me of a graceful hourglass figure, and I have come to refer to the tree as "she" because it calls to my imagination. I always feel compelled to qualify my words when I write about something like this-- I am truly a skeptic with a scientific brain but also have an imagination that likes to grab an idea and fly with it. So, there. Skeptics, know that I don't have any proof that trees have spirits, and spiritualists, know that I am becoming more attuned to Nature and all her possibilities as each day goes by. . . and the possibilities in this particular maple tree are very intriguing. This version of the goddess in the maple tree is done in dark ivory with light touches of gold leaf. I wasn't even attempting to capture that elusive gray/tan color and the texture of bark. Although, I'll have some pictures of the bark attempts coming soon :) Thanks for checking out the goddess in the maple tree, and I hope you are surrounded by similar beauty wherever you live.

Joy

(Angelinabeadalina)
It's been a long time since I collected angels. The first one was a ninety-nine cent department store special that I told my 6-year-old self was going to be a present for my Granddaddy. I'm almost 42, so you can guess how old that little plastic angel would look if I could find it now! I think I did give it to Granddaddy with lots of hints about how I ought to keep it for him. . .I don't remember, but I am pretty sure I ended up with it and kept it in my nightstand drawer. The last time I remember seeing it was , well, I don't know when. I do remember loving that "angel" is part of my name, and I do remember loving the shape of the robe that particular angel was wearing. My collection was never anything official, and I kind of gave up on it after angels became a popular thing sometime in the eighties. Still, angels occasionally call to my creative self; this time, it was the glass that needed to be made into an angel. Hope you like this one. JOY 2007 is written in stringer of ivory/amber/gray, and the rest of the glass is just plain ivory. Wings and halo are not melded to the glass, just wound on to a loop on the upper back and around a groove at the top of her head. Primitive, ancient, satisfying to make.

Leave Angel Notes Here

(Angelinabeadalina)
Seems like we all have those days when it would be good to know an angel is watching over us. How about leaving your angel a note here with this angel? I can't guarantee angel communication ;), but I bet you'll feel better just knowing someone else read your message and said a little prayer for you!

Tree Spirits: Experimental Sisters to Green Men

(Angelinabeadalina)
Tree Spirits. These are much more feminine than Green Men, so I called them Tree Spirits. They could be thought of as sisters to the Green Men, I think. These were also partially inspired by that maple tree in our backyard, by the desire to translate the spirit of that tree into a glass form. Their actually form is far from perfect; bubbled and burnt transparents, uneven etching, yadayadayada. The thing is, it's important to me to share my progress and enthusiasm for creating. I'll never be a master of the glass, but I think pour enough of myself into it that I can hope to spread a little inspiration :)
Abstractia, What Do You See? * Featured Page *

Abstractia, What Do You See?

(Angelinabeadalina)
Abstractia. . . an imaginary goddess of the abstract. Do you see her? or something else? My five year old sees the face of a girl wearing a crown, with hair trailing down her back. I see the subtle goddess with full curves and an appreciation of all the subtle details in her world.

Cape Dance Woman

(Angelinabeadalina)
Shari and Janice from LE inadvertently planted this idea in my head when they described what they saw in Abstractia. This Cape Dance Woman is another stand alone sculpture, and the free flowing cape is the perfect metaphor for how I felt at the torch that day. Free flowing creativity, thanks to encouragement from a jewelry-making friend. Isn't it amazing, how we can tell ourselves something and still not be completely convinced, but if someone else merely alludes to it by chance, then we believe?

Mrs. Claus Wants This Sassy Elf Relocated Preferably Somewhere Far from the North Pole

(Angelinabeadalina)
Let's just be candid here for a moment, shall we? Santa is a good man and a good husband. Mrs. Claus knows this, and she proudly tells him these things at least once a day. However, Mrs. Claus has been keeping an eye on the younger generation of elves, and she's not real keen on the idea of having potential temptresses in the house, ya know? No need to be coy, we all know we'd probably feel the same way. Just because trouble speaks softly and respectfully and doesn't intend to cause you problems, that doesn't mean it isn't t-r-o-u-b-l-e. . .so, in the interest of happiness all 'round, Mrs. Claus is helping Sassy the Elf find a new gig. Mrs. Claus reports that Sassy happens to have a wickedly funny sense of humor and would be a great companion to keep by your desk at home or work. She also figures Sassy would make a very eye-catching addition to a gift for someone on your "naughty but in a very nice way" list. C'mon, help a girl out, won't ya? Big bonus, you help prevent trouble at the North Pole, and nobody really wants disruptions in the gift giving operation, do they?

Avian Messenger to Bring Tiny Treasures to Your Nest

(Angelinabeadalina)
This Avian Messenger to Bring Tiny Treasures to Your Nest mask bead appears in the December2007/Janu... issue of Glass Line magazine. He is part of my article "Distilling Emotion, and Pouring It into Glass."
And in My Hour of Darkness Madonna and Child * Featured Page *

And in My Hour of Darkness Madonna and Child

(Angelinabeadalina)
". . .and in my hour of darkness, she is standing right in front of me, speaking words of wisdom, let it be."

Okay, Beatles fans, please forgive me. I know there must be a story behind "Let It Be," and I imagine it doesn't really have much to do with the Madonna even though Paul is singing "mother Mary comes to me, speaking words of wisdom, let it be."

Here's what happened, just because I like to tell the story behind each of my artworks. I was listening to the Beatles this morning, actually watching a youtube video of Paul singing "Let It Be". Well, you know, as corny a choice as it might be, "Let It Be" really is one of my favorites of the Beatles'. Now, head to the torch to make one more Madonna and Child for Christmas, still humming "And when the broken hearted people living in the world agree, there will be an answer, let it be. For though they may be parted there is still a chance that they will see, there will be an answer. let it be."

Surprisin... or not so surprisingly if you can let your imagination roam freely across a few different boundaries, the song and the Madonna can do a dance together. Mary must have been thinking about the hours of darkness that were to come as she held that newborn. She also had to have the strength to let it be, to know there will be an answer. As I thought about this, the black swirl of glass grew around Mary's head, the coming hours of darkness.

Hand in Hand for Mike & Nancy

(Angelinabeadalina)
Mike & Nancy, this one is for you. Ask your daughter how it was made-- she watched it all, and her sweetie even took a turn melting the huge glob of glass. . .Sorry you have to wait to get your youngest home, but their snow delay has made James and Kate very happy! Victoria and Tanner are here, too, and the cousins are having a great time hanging out together :)
Trust in the Face of Vulnerability * Featured Page *

Trust in the Face of Vulnerability

(Angelinabeadalina)
Another sculpture from the December 2007/January2008 issue of Glass Line magazine, she is etched dark ivory glass and lots of emotion. The article is about distilling emotion and pouring it into glass, and in the end, I think she is a good example of this. She is vulnerable, slender neck exposed to the world. She is trusting, letting herself be exposed to the world.
Dance with Abandon...Set Your Soul Aflame * Featured Page *

Dance with Abandon...Set Your Soul Aflame

(Angelinabeadalina)
Dance with abandon, open yourself to life, set your soul aflame, and your heart will rejoice! Don't we all wish we could let go and live life like she is dancing, with complete abandon? Maybe you can. Maybe you can't. Maybe you have tried. Maybe you've cried. Maybe, maybe, whatever may be may be? Just let go for a moment, and let your soul free to choose its path. . .then take that moment of freedom and apply to your life in little ways. It may seem like such small changes will never make a difference, but I think you will be surprised. I think you will find yourself growing bit by bit, quietly becoming who you never thought you'd have the nerve to be. Peace, Ang
