'Livia' Romano-British necklace in cobalt blue

'Livia' Romano-British necklace in cobalt blue

(TillermanBeads)
Another necklace inspired by our research into British beadmaking and the historic background of glass here in Britain. This is a necklace using 'melon' beads in transparent cobalt blue, accented with silver disks and carnelian beads, in a style consistent with items found in archaeological digs for the time period.

All of these were sitting around unfinished for a while, but I finally got my act together and fringed them out! They'll be at Tucson with me, and displayed as the loose beads are sold. Ask to see them if they aren't out when you stop by to say hello!

Although I primarily specialize in bracelets, every now and then I venture forward with a necklace or two. My newest necklace features a stunning lampwork focal from Margaret Zinger, combined with a seedbead rope and dazzling dangles of rich carnelian.

Here's a couple of necklaces I've kept for myself and wear all the time. Interestingly enough both feature the same lampwork artists beads, although they are very different in style and color. You'll immediately know you when you see me, because I'll surely be wearing one or the other necklace around my neck! :-)

Several years ago one friend, Karen Kress, introduced me to beading and another friend, Ceil Zappa, a lampwork artist, introduced me to flameworking. They catalyzed a latent but inherited love of design, color and art which has emerged as Flying Pig Creations (because I doubted it could get off the ground) a design studio whose center is artisan jewelry but often spirals off into other artistic or artisanal endeavors. Here is a wonderful opportunity to showcase the jewelry with a group of inspired artists.

This Beautiful choker & earrings feature beautiful handcrafted lampwork beads by Blue Heeler Glass.
I'm going to have a hard time giving this one up!

"Luminetta"

The fantastic focal beadby artist and beadmaker Karen Lorraine inspired this piece. I was able to encompass all of the wonderful colors in the focal bead.

~Sunseekers~ Lampwork neckpiece

(Fyrebeadz)
As with most living things that love the sun, the flowers on my focal bead are no exception! They are reaching towards the sun amidst tangled vines and leaves. This is a focal bead I made to sell on ebay, but alas, it did not. So, I made it into this show-stopping neckpiece. I used fresh water XL pearls and biwa stick pearls. Stones used were Black Onyx and Smoky Quartz. I think I am in love with this and I've been told it has an art nouveau flavor and now after looking at it, I think I have to agree! April 2007

Necklaces are such a rare treat for me I guess they deserve their own page. I love long dramatic sophisticated necklaces and I think this one fits the bill. I was fortunate to procure one of Trey Cornettes stunning focals which I've paired with a ndebele rope woven to my specifications by Carol Dean Sharpe (31 inches long). Together the focal, turned pendant with some sterling beadcaps, chain and lovely Swarovski crystals came together just as I'd hoped.

The focal part of this Gorgeous Necklace is made with a large Handmade Lampwork bead, The bead is made by Richard Ronsick and it measures a substantial 18mm x 23mm. It is set on a heavy gauge Sterling Silver wire (14 Gauge) along with High-Fired Ceramic beads (from Greece) dipped in Fine Silver and Hand wrapped Sterling Silver wire. The focal part is attached to large-linked Sterling Silver chain. The finishing touch is my handmade Sterling Swan Hook. I have patinaed the piece for rich rustic look. This necklace measures 19.50 inches and can be adjusted smaller.

(BentWarpedAndTwisted)
I decided to do something a little different with this piece and concentrate on the lampwork beads rather than the accent beads. All the lampwork beads are by 3 Muses Glass, all the sterling silver beads except the starlights are from Side Street Beads in Watkinsville, GA. I have accented the gunmetal hearts and wildly colored swirled beads with natural garnet, rhodonite, hematite and SwarovskiŽ crystal bicones in Crystal, Rose. I have also used handmade sterling beads in triangular and oblong shapes as well as 2mm round polished beads.

My daughter was talking to me about the latest "Pirates of the Caribbean" movie just as the end theme of "Live and Let Die" came on the TV so I had Bond girls and pirate wenches on the brain when I made this one! This piece measures just over 17" long.

I don't know why grapes are such an appealing theme for me, but they do seem to reccur in my work and imagery that inspires me. Perhaps its the colors, or just a faded memory of some idyllic past life. Whatever the case, I hope you enjoy these necklaces.

Stately Tree Necklaces

Stately Tree Necklaces

(BurningScentsations)
I made my first tree in soft glass within 6 months of working in glass. It was a simple design and cracked before I could finish it.

Nearly three years later, I revisted this theme and the following necklaces are the fruits of my labor...
