Spring Sorbet

Spring Sorbet

(Ironmoutain01)
It's been so cold and dreary here that I had to break from my latest run of neutral colours to play with some warm, springy colours in my Organic series. This focal is a mix of pres shapes - an XL lentil front with an XL tab back so it lies nicely without rolling around.
Strawberry Ice

Strawberry Ice

(Ironmoutain01)
This is also a press-blend. An XL lentil top with an XL tab base, allowing the focal to rest more comfortably against the skin. (Chuckling) The bead is also a rebellion against all of the COLD fog around here - I neede to play with something pretty!!!!

Ice Jewels

(Ironmoutain01)
We've had so many cold dreary days here that I wanted to play with spring colours and still play more with the water bead series, but not add the heavy silver to them. Just something a little more delicate.... I DON'T DO GIRLY!!!! (chuckles)
Blush

Not usually being a heart person, I have no idea what has gotten into me - I guess it's the Beads of Courage program. Here's a purple heart Ice Jewel focal....
Rangi & Papa

Rangi & Papa

(Angelinabeadalina)
Pops #2 told me about the Maori people of New Zealand, emailed me links and pictures, and challenged me to do something with the idea. Well, I read about their creation god and goddess. Rangi and Papa are the short versions of their names. Rangi and Papa loved one another so deeply and were tightly embraced, so much so that their children who lived between them could not grow. These children pushed Rangi the father out into the sky and Papa the mother back down to the earth. The children then grew to become the beginnings of the Maori tribe families. Rangi cries tears from the sky, and sometimes Papa shudders with lonesomeness-- falling stars and earthquakes. Thanks, Paul/Carol's dad, for the push, and I'm working on capturing the spirit of warrior faces.

Another crunch bead - plain and smooth. I'm not sure if I like the way the silver foil turned out this time - maybe I'll try it again with tears instead of cuts...
Venetian Inspired Masks

Venetian Inspired Masks

(Dystini)
I've always been intriqued by masks, particularily Venetian and Mardi Gras masks. I've been watching a lot of Cirque du Soleil lately and the makeup/masks/cost... are incredibly inspiring. I'm actually pondering trying to become a mask/prop designer for them.

These mini masks can be used as pendants or hung on a wall or placed in a shadow box.

They are made from 100% polymer clay except for the hanging rings (which are imbedded firmly in the clay) and sometimes hidden armatures (like the wire that's inside the horn for strength). Future masks may have feathers (I'm trying to figure ut how to imbed them without them melting in the oven) or other embellishments but the bases will always be pure clay.

Hi,
let's see how I'll try to introduce myself .....
my name is carla
my friends call me carli, and because it's much cooler (it's very hip in germany to talk in anglicisms) we changed it to carlee ..I'm part italian and part czechoslovakia, so I unite the two big historic nations of glassbeadmaking. AND - believe or not, the part of stuttgart where we live is called FIREcreek - you see!? hot glass has to be the center of my live! ;-)

A Gift for My Friend

A Gift for My Friend

(Eugena)
I am playing with my faux cloisonné technique for polymer clay.

This huge flat focal bead was the first result of my experiments. I added fresh-water pearls to form the body of the butterfly and silver foil to obtain the delicate veins on its wings. I am thrilled with the result and so is my friend, who received this bead as one of her birthday presents.

Bourbon: Distilled Glass Series

Bourbon: Distilled Glass Series

(Angelinabeadalina)
Bourbon is distilled down from a sour smelling mash into that heavenly, fiery liquid. You don't drink a mug of bourbon, you just take a shot. Why? Bourbon is so refined, that's all it takes. It's been boiled down to just the good stuff. That's what I've been wanting to do with my glass lately, boil it down to just the good stuff, make the emotions (good or bad) so raw you can feel them at a glance. Hey, here's a shot of AngelinaBeadalina :)

I thought that I'd finally pull the proverbial head out of the proverbial.... and play with some new techniques. Like pulling cane - I've never done it before, so I tried a wispy white and clear to play in my water beads, and switched out the silver foil for mesh to see what would happen. What do you think???
Experimental Quetzalcoatl

Experimental Quetzalcoatl

(Angelinabeadalina)
I will learn to spell Quetzalcoatl. I will learn to spell Quetzalcoatl. I will figure out which spelling is the most popular for that Aztec god who appears as part snake and part bird. Checked out a bunch of books at the library this past Sunday, including one about Central and South American mythology. "Quetzal" (a bird with long green tail feather) and "coatl" (snake) make the Feathered Serpent, who was the Aztec god of sun, sky, wind, and even the morning star. The Aztecs seem so interesting from the distance of ignorance-- Hey, look, it's fierce warriors and they had something to do with chocolate! Well, I don't think I'd ever really read alot about their culture. Yes, they did sacrifices, but it wasn't always their enemies who got fed to the gods. Quetzalcoatl led an interesting life as a god, too. Here are some masks I made after reading a bit. Just played with turquoise because he was often represented in turquoise.
