Faces, Faux Cloisonne

Faces, Faux Cloisonne

(Eugena)
I am trying my hand in capturing facial expressions using faux cloisonne technique. Surprisingly, I found this task way more difficult than making florals - I am working on a very small scale, and shifting any piece of wire I am working with even by a millimeter changes the expression right away...

"Far and Away" Challenge winners (polymer clay)

(ChrisDembinski)
In 2005, The Bead Hive Group on Ebay challenged its members with a "Far and Away" project. For 4 months we explored countries, cultures and landscapes for creative inspiration.
Raku-ish

Raku-ish

(Dystini)
These beads were created after studying tons of pics of raku stringer lampwork beads.

This is sort of canework. I layered the blends offseting them slightly. When I had a thick enough stack I took slices of it and placed them on black base beads. For some, I took a section of the stack and rolled it up like a jellyroll and took my slices from that.

They don't compare to my inspiration but they were a lot of work and I'm very proud of them.

Thin sheets of blends are cut and pieced together into new sheets. These sheets are either formed over scrap clay or left flat and shapes cut from the. They're cured and then the gaps between pieces are back filled with black clay. They're cured again. Next the excess black is sanded off.

I made the cane from her article in Polymer Cafe Magazine and used her website to puzzle out how to manipulate the cane to make the pendants. Then I realized I needed beads to match the pendants.

A single cane, stretched, shaped and combined in different ways was used to make everything.

I'm not that fond of or very good at canework so there won't be much here. Canework usually requires patience, something I don't have. I rush my canes, resulting in distortion and other odd things. What ends up here are the few examples of my canework that I'm proud of.

Mica Shift

Mica Shift

(Dystini)
A single color of metallic clay. The mica particles within the clay are first aligned and then manipulated to create the illusions of depth and/or movement. These beads are smooth to the touch.

Eugena's Faux Cloisonne Hearts

Eugena's Faux Cloisonne Hearts

(Eugena)
I made these pendants out of polymer clay using my faux cloisonne technique.

Clo... is an old enameling technique that involves soldering wire onto the metal base and filling it up with glass enamels in various colors. The technique I am using, while still pretty tedious, is actually much simpler than the original one.

These pendants are available on my website along with the tutorial for this technique.

BEAD MARDI GRAS, BEAD LENT

BEAD MARDI GRAS, BEAD LENT

(Angelinabeadalina)
. . . You wouldn't give up all foods or hobbies or whatever for Lent, so I'm not giving up all beads. . . But I am giving up showing you faces during February. (Big Disclaimer, then we can go on with the story: If I get some great gallery or wholesale offer next week, then "a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do", but I won't make you look at the pictures :))I think the whole idea of Mardi Gras, Lent, and Easter can be distilled into spiritual and just plain how to live life wisdom for all people. So, here's why I'm going to observe "BEAD LENT". I've been torn between doing more of what I love right now, which is making faces, and doing something new that wouldn't involve faces. Ohmygosh, I love doing faces! Most of the ones this week even had eyelashes! Still, even though the faces continue to come out of the flame with their own personalities, I think it's time to make myself stretch and grow in another direction. Let's face it, if you don't stretch yourself, it shows. Gotta tell ya, though, stre

Spring Sorbet

Spring Sorbet

(Ironmoutain01)
It's been so cold and dreary here that I had to break from my latest run of neutral colours to play with some warm, springy colours in my Organic series. This focal is a mix of pres shapes - an XL lentil front with an XL tab back so it lies nicely without rolling around.
Strawberry Ice

This is also a press-blend. An XL lentil top with an XL tab base, allowing the focal to rest more comfortably against the skin. (Chuckling) The bead is also a rebellion against all of the COLD fog around here - I neede to play with something pretty!!!!
