I pronounce Dzi, "zeye"... I am fascinated with the meaning behind the dzi beads. They are believed to be agate stones with powerful blessings to offer the owner. I have sord of made up my own story....perhaps they were beads made thousands of years ago, with glass. And then, they were refound, and named "agate stones" ....hmmm...that's my story, And I am sticking with it...;) this is where I will show you the dzi beads.

Custom beads are available during the holiday season at my web site; http://www.sheilamolrey.com The bead comes with a pedestal; it can be worn and displayed as a work of art. All beads are signed by me, with a titanium pen. November, 2007

I really love elegance. My studio is elegant. While I am well on my way to requiring more money for health insurance...I have decided to start making beads specifically for the jewelry making peoples. (Yes, I know, what a "original" idea lol) I will be creating elegant focals with matching sets. Thanks for looking, and check back by July, i will have lots of elegance to share. Thank you!

I have a habbit for making art for all kinds of art shows and then not sending them in the mail. This is my Fire and Ice sculpture/ beads? I think it is just ascuplture with a hole. She is Goddess of Ice and the opalino glass is representing a fire with rocks. I see my work getting to be more about sculpture and less about beads, or more about beads and less about sculpture...we'll see?

I love my garden. Everywhere I look there is a rose or a Lilly. Such an inspiration for my glass. I have recently fallen in love with murrini, flower cane, and those mixed together on a bead (all over again). I can paint flowers, as if it was paint. Things are really melting together nice. Ideas are evolving and I am a little bit more normal than I thought. Maybe the concept, the inner emotion could be received thru visual beauty. Maybe the "story" isn't so important....ah! who am I kidding? Art about art continues....so many artists have painted flowers. Nobody can call it "theirs!" Everybody is dead so, I guess nothing has to be dead. Freedom to celebrate art. This is a chance of a life time. A Modern philosophy of thought....hm!

Inspiration from my most recent adventure. I LOVE organic!! And, I was not sure what I was going to do with Andrew Brown's techniques... Now I keep finding myself spending large portions of the day grinding the glass and ideas are just popping up. Andrew Brown and Harlod Williams Conney are really a pleasure. I am just really thankful for the input (at our class at the ISGB Gathering this summer).. Everything on this page is BORO-silicate...and I am applying these skills to my Soft glass. wonderful things are happening...(8-2007)

This was the first bead I made for Valentines day. I have never made a work of art for a "holiday" or anything commercial. Never really been into that. My inspiration with this piece really comes from murrini. Now that I am a murrini maker...it just makes sense to try to make a heart! I needed a bead to put the hearts on. I put 3 of my heart murrinies on the back of this bead...If you make murrini you know that one of the hardest parts is keeping the "scum" out of it. I was very carefull to not get "scum" around my heart. After putting the three murrinies in the bead, I then put some clear over them and the carbon was trapped in there (the encasement looks dirty). This makes the bead appear Antique to me. I can not help but enjoy that on this bead. (ironic) In ceramics you get all kinds of surprizes with what the glass glaze does. The idea that the material speaks...I enjoy that part. I just love organic and the thought of things being natural!

Halloween Kitch witch. 4" tall soft glass...

A re-make of an ancient sculpture in glass. She is 2" tall. Insired by the oldest Mother Goddess found many many years ago. She is made with ivory, resembling the limestone of the origional. She is covered with red enamel sifted over her body, symbolizing the red paint that is wore off, on the origional. She is polished with a shine, which represents (to me) the "new" art medium; Glass. After all these years we still appreciate her. She is on Ebay starting March 9.

I really enjoy using my shorts to create cane to make flowers and latticino. After studying with Loren Stump, I know many ways to do this. I am using the cane to make landscapes that are dream-like. And the Goddess; My favorite relief to create. (August 2007) Peace.

Combining some traditional soft glass techniques, and some sculptural techniques is interesting me. So, I have a transparent cobalt base, with silver foil burnished over that, and rubino d'oro strings of glass, topped off with a really expensive transparent cobalt special something? The bead itself consists of techniques that I learned from reading tutorials by Michale Barley. The figure is created using hot glass relief techniques I re-invented, I suppose... This piece is the beginning to something. The third of its kind. I am Proud to say, it Sold fast at its first show. Along with another one that is similar (to a collector from Canada). What an honor...when someone is excited about the work. Really helps to keep me going! Thank you, and Enjoy!

As I enter into having a career in art, I am continuing my education with a number of talented artists. Loren is the most important for my future at this point. I plan making many murrinies. That will some day be my "product line". These are a number of things made in my 2nd class with him. Enjoy!

I am fascinated with the human form and sculpting it. I try to sculpt forms that reference thoughts that I find to be positive. Even though, I myself have a hard time turning the thoughts off in my brain. I like to be reminded to at least try. Meditation is a good thought.

Keeping up with the progress... These figures have undercuts around them that I am very much proud of. I am seeing the progress in my work I have been looking for. That feels good. I am making my beads stand now. I absolutley am all for a standing bead! Most of the beads I buy can stand too. I have a JC bead, Angie bead, Mr. Smiley bead, Kristen at Genesee bead...Yup! And they all stand. So I know I am not the only one that appreciates that. A worry bead in your pocket, or right there in front of you...facing "that" direction.

Many pieces from Spring 2008 with murrini. It is not about being pretty. It is about having meaning. I seperate the "pretty" from the bead sometimes, and that is odd to some people; fascinating to others. (the subjective thing...) I personally have always had an attraction to the RAW free flow of materials, combined with universal references... stories and real life events inspire me; symbolism and figures...

After studying with Loren Stump (6 months ago), I have continued to create little and Large murrinies. After a lot of time and many creations....this one came along... A Soul Gesture with the peace murrini...in the "raw"....Spread the peace! (Lots more to come too...)

The odalisque pose again! I was looking thruogh my old art books, back at some Picasso paintings. He was an odalisque pose creator too. Isn't it awesome how we all do things so different? I am fond of Picasso, I never really thought of doing things his way. Maybe I should try. Do you feel the freedom?

I have been drawing landscapes my whole life. My family would travel the Great Lakes around Michigan in the summer (Every summer from early childhood until age 19...for about 4 weeks). I would stare at the horizon and imagine where to start and end...then I would draw. I have drawings of almost everywhere I went. I think it is time to apply those experiences and thoughts to Lampwork. Be ready for more! Thanks for looking.

Being a hippie...It has a fun "style". I really want to try out tye dyes with glass. We'll see. I made some dot beads that looked really cool. I thought, that looks kinda like a tye dye! So, why not? Then it became more about NOT burnnig the skin or the shirt. Building up or reducing...And, using my murrini. I see what Loren Stump was saying..."Before you know it murrinies were everywhere!" (Don't worry Loren. She is crack free and introduced two times! And! No wafting! ;)) Peace!

This sculpture was first made with clay way back whenever. When I tried to make it with glass I realized that I could sculpt glass like clay. So, that is what I enjoy doing. My hope is that I can get my glass skills up and get better at this. Even if I have studied sculpture for many years...I still have a lot to learn. This is Ivory and Silver. (These were sold on Ebay; they live in California now.)

A Little History; How 'Within'began...when I was Sheila Farnell. First created in clay in 1996, a latex mold was completed with a plaster mother mold. (The photo below shows the form during the mold making stages)One plaster cast was produced covered in red paint and Copper foil. (picture not available YET; Chack back!). The form was then cast in Bronze (shown below) in 1997. This work was given a Patina with East Lansing, Michigan water and manganese dioxide (1997). (This piece is much larger than the glass {the origional was 30“ tall15“w}) {FYI- the mold for this piece was stolen from Michigan State University during the last week of school. If you are aware of where it ended up...please let me know; Thank you!} First one for sale SOLD on Ebay (thank you!) in 2006.
