March Madness '08

Posted by RickieVogesDesign on 3/7/2008
Well, finally I'm on a designing frenzy, after a long hiatus from the workbench. I'm trying to get my groove back, after a long winter's nap! So now that I've made a start, I just need to keep going! I'm looking around for inspiration all around and hoping I'll make something that will make your heart skip a beat. So here goes start--it's March Madness time! Any beginning, from me, wouldn't be complete without some odes to the seashore, as you will see!
Red Tide
Three wonderful lampwork artists contributed to this design--tiles by Donna Felkner, a starfish lentil by Maureen Kelly, and a starfish charm by Tiffany McCoy. Add a few pearls , Thai silver nautilus & clam shells. some sterling spacers and voila!

Here's a look from another angle. I've attempted a well balanced design, without symmetry to add interest and whimsy in my work.

Just one more quick glance to show off the nice balance and contrast that make this design something to fancy.

Fowl Play or Make Your Own Adventure

Fowl Play or Make Your Own Adventure

This bracelet started with a set of stunning lampwork by Manuela Wutschke. She took her inspiration for the set from the Spanish artist Joan Miro and her surreal art. The beads inspired me and in my imagination I saw birds on every bead---what do you think?

Some great little squeezed beads by Tiffany McCoy in grey and pink with clear droplets combine with Thai silver in this design.

In the Garden Primeval

This necklace is a new favorite. I'm so happy with the way the gemstones and lampwork compliment and enhance one another. I wish I could have done a better job photographing this piece--it is gorgeous on. The lampwork by Manuela Wutschke has a delicate whispy quality with lots of depth and exquisite colors. The champaign citrine and rose quartz are a perfect foundation and gold filled chain with 23k vermeil findings complete the rich warm look I was going for.

All the bright cheerful colors of summertime come together in perfect harmony in this bracelet with lampwork by Lori Peterson. This goes with all your summer fun!

Making Waves

Making Waves

Pretty little Double Helix seashells and beads from Tiffany McCoy glisten and ripple in their color shifting glory in the bracelet. I've embellished with Thai and sterling silver and my own little tassle charm for a simple and very wearable bracelet.

Revisiting Treasure Island

Revisiting Treasure Island

Using a familiar color theme of mine, with some spectacular lampwork by Dawn Scannell, this wonderful oceanthemed charm bracelet came to be. These wonderful lampwork beads were made with Double Helix reactive glass and just shimmer with irredescent splendor. They are couched on a sterling chain with Thai silver shells, loads of freshwater pearls and aquamarine gemstones, as well as a sprinkling of wooden beads for contrast and a mother of pearl disc.

Barefoot Contessa

Barefoot Contessa

Just a simple bit of whimsy here with one of Vickie Miller's adorable lampwork flipflops, a Tiffany McCoy conch shell, and sterling starfish, wired onto one of Rocio's Mexican sterling chains...doesn't it put a smile on your face?

Big Sur

Big Sur

I couldn't resist my latest lampwork purchase--some exquisite lampwork sets by Dawn Scannell. They combined her exceptional raku skills with my beloved seashells. Here is my first "baby" to come from the treasures I had to have to play with! The beads were encased in clear to give them even more depth and beauty. I wish my photography could even do them half justice. You just have to hold these beads in your hands to appreciate their true worth!

Old Fashioned Love Song

Old Fashioned Love Song

Here's a sweet little bracelet with lampwork by Holly Kempson. I haven't seen her around much lately. This is a set of hers I've had for quite awhile---waiting on my muse to catch the vision. I love the colors of rich blues and ambers so I've combined it with sterling Turkish beads and carnelian gemstones. I also used a newly designed clasp from Pegasus Imports and one of their charming sterling leaves for that perfect finishing touch. Once again it's a touch asymmetrical for just a little surprise and interest. Hopefully enough balance to please the eye, with a little surprise to keep you coming back.
