These were an experiment with reactive glass so I wasn't quite sure what they were going to look like when I made them. This morning when I took them out of the kiln, I immediately thought of the hand painted Mediterranean tiles that I love so much.

I am not sure what inspired this focal, other than to say that I needed to work in a softer pallet of color for a bit. The misted tones silvered blue glass that frames the bead is Double Helix's Elektra.

I've struggled at the torch this past week with the idea of this design. I was working the beads too hot and all of the pretty colors were washing out. Finally, I took a deep breath, and accepted the fact that the beads would have to be made very slowly in a cooler flame. I am so happy with them and they are good reminder that I MUST be more patient!!

Another experiment. . .I was aiming for garnet, but ended up with more of a spicy red. Still playing "get to know ya" with some 96 COE glasses and they always seem to provide some unexpected outcome due to the high level of metals.

An experimental set. . .I can't remember how to make the "Surf Gem" beads that I made for the bracelet that I posted last week, so this is another attempt at trying to figure it out. Now a day has passed and I can't remember how I made these either. Too much propane, perhaps? lol
