Pops #2 told me about the Maori people of New Zealand, emailed me links and pictures, and challenged me to do something with the idea. Well, I read about their creation god and goddess. Rangi and Papa are the short versions of their names. Rangi and Papa loved one another so deeply and were tightly embraced, so much so that their children who lived between them could not grow. These children pushed Rangi the father out into the sky and Papa the mother back down to the earth. The children then grew to become the beginnings of the Maori tribe families. Rangi cries tears from the sky, and sometimes Papa shudders with lonesomeness-- falling stars and earthquakes. Thanks, Paul/Carol's dad, for the push, and I'm working on capturing the spirit of warrior faces.

Papa is a wholesome green with deep clay. Rangi is not blue like the sky this time-- I was inspired by a wooden mask when I tried him.
|
Well, he looks nothing like that wooden mask! But I still like the way he turned out, kind of GQ-ish in his grandeur.
|
I do think I should make him in blue sometime; I can see him in a deep dark blue with a sprinkling of stars falling from his eyes.

Her shortened name sounds confusing, you know, but I can't remember the whole name. I'll try to check it again. There are so many interesting websites about the Maori people and culture, just google Maori.

Mother Earth, done in a green that streaks dark red (Nile green). I'd love to make a lush version, I love the story of Rangi and Papa.

Thanks for stopping by to visit with AngelinaBeadalina! I'm really just plain ol' Angie or Ang, but the catchy name does suit me in the sense that I'm a motormouth who loves to play with words almost as much as I love to play with glass! You can find me here at BeadArtists.org, in my Etsy shop, or in my daily blog. You can get links to those places at www.angelinabeadalina.com (click on it above). Please pardon the use of my "official" website as a traffic control signal at the moment-- at least, that's what it makes me think of when I look at it. . . lots of directions to other places where there are updates on a daily basis. Tech-stuff would not be one of those things that I love or that comes naturally to me ;) Well, enough rambling for now, come on in, look around. . . have fun exploring my glass experiments and ideas. Peace, Ang
