Faux Bois Focals

Faux Bois Focals

Experimenting with the woodsy, mossy flavor of faux bois. This is something that has been a goal of mine for quite a while and I'm finally getting serious about it.

Inspired by a blend of the concrete faux bois that is becoming popular and my love of nature.

Jellyfish

Jellyfish

Probably the most involved and technically difficult beads that I make, it took me 3 years to get them to where I was proud of them.

Birds

Birds

I've only made a handful of these birds to show, but I'm feeling a pull in this direction that I think I should follow. You never know where these little nudges will lead, but I can't wait to find out! Hope you enjoy.

Mushrooms and Foresty Beads

Mushrooms and Foresty Beads

Probably the beads that bring me the most personal satisfaction are the ones that look the most organic. The simple, realistic, calming beads. The mushrooms epitomize all those characteristics for me and are a personal favorite of mine.

Complex Encased Floral Focal Beads

Complex Encased Floral Focal Beads

From day 1 of my torching life my focus was always on how much depth I could impart into my beads. No other style of beads allows me to explore that more than encased florals and seascapes. This is a sampling of my florals.

Organics

Organics

A selection of my favorite organics. I really enjoy the freedom that is involved in making organic beads. It isn't necessarily that you are throwing caution to the wind, because you still have to plan and understand what the properties are of the glass you choose. It is that you are handing part of the resulting design over to a higher power. One can, from experience, predict what the finished bead will resemble, and guide it to become visually pleasing, but the nuances and minute details that give organics their character ultimately come from outside of ourselves.

Bead Sets

Bead Sets

I have the utmost respect for set makers. It is rare for me to make a whole set of beads, I would say that I lack patience, but I'm not sure that is it. I could spend 2 hours on a single focal and if that isn't patience, I don't know what is. Anyway, kudos to those of you who consistently turn out brilliantly put together sets. It's hard! This gallery showcases every set I've made in the last four years. Lots of you guys could make this many sets in a few weeks.
