Sculpted Vessels: Part 1 The hits, the misses. The ones I'm proud of, the ones that'll never step their little bodies out the door of my house. You know I love to sculpt, but having never really practiced hollows much, this is a strange obsession for me! Truth be known, I'm proud as I can be of each one as it comes out of the kiln. . . it's not real easy to keep that much glass warm through two detailed steps (sculpting plus the hollow). Even more of a challenge has been learning to do the faces "upside down". I usually work chin to forehead, left to right on the mandrel, but the hollow and the enclosed end of these vessels needs to be at the right end of the mandrel. Well, anyway, I'll keep ya posted on the progress:

Inspired by the textbook drawing of a man performing a ritual during the Shang Dynasty. The red ritual bowl is the hollow part of this vessel.

Hollow body with stringer necklace decoration. Her ponytail forms a pendant loop.

This happy Buddha sits serenely on his own. No handles, since he really does sit evenly on a flat surface. Use him like a perfume bottle-- just a very happy, wise, motivational pefume bottle.

Four handles around the top, large hollow section with stringer decoration inpired by oracle bone symbols. Caveats: I know the hollow is lopsided! Gotta work on keeping the shape even after melting in stringer.

Flat stopper-style top, hollow red section has "Love" written in cursive. The red is not quite a heart shape, but I might try that next time.

She's the leaky one! She's the first one I tried, so I hadn't really planned how to execute the idea! I found out that letting the hollow drop off mandrel was not a good idea!

Thanks for stopping by to visit with AngelinaBeadalina! I'm really just plain ol' Angie or Ang, but the catchy name does suit me in the sense that I'm a motormouth who loves to play with words almost as much as I love to play with glass! You can find me here at BeadArtists.org, in my Etsy shop, or in my daily blog. You can get links to those places at www.angelinabeadalina.com (click on it above). Please pardon the use of my "official" website as a traffic control signal at the moment-- at least, that's what it makes me think of when I look at it. . . lots of directions to other places where there are updates on a daily basis. Tech-stuff would not be one of those things that I love or that comes naturally to me ;) Well, enough rambling for now, come on in, look around. . . have fun exploring my glass experiments and ideas. Peace, Ang
