In 2005, The Bead Hive Group on Ebay challenged its members with a "Far and Away" project. For 4 months we explored countries, cultures and landscapes for creative inspiration.

This time of year always has me dreaming of sunning on a tropical beach somewhere.

Who doesn’t like to doodle? Talking on the phone is when I tend to doodle without thought. I just pick up a pen/pencil and doodle on whatever is close at hand. I’ve been thinking about incorporating this in my beads for some time now. The problem has been that I have never taken the time to find an image transfer method that works well for me. So what’s a girl to do? Just start doodling directly on the bead.

Decided to take a break from florals and work with some mogume gane techniques. I really love the earthy colors in these.

Inspired by the soft organic look of NaosGlass' beads. The earthy colors often make me think of Native American pottery, which is the direction I took with these beads.

Asian inspired design is big influence in my work. It started with collecting fans at a young age, many of which were Japanese paper fans.

Sterling silver bezel cups lined with silver holographic foil provide a beautiful background for tiny polymer clay flowers that seem to just float.

When I started to catagorize my beads, I realized that I do a LOT of florals.

A few years ago I saw the most incredible intarsia beads in a magazine and like most things I see, I thought I can do that with polymer clay.

How often do you take the time to look beyond the obvious to really SEE something? These beads are about looking for "hidden treasures" in things we see everyday and may take for granted.

Every once in a while I get in a mood to make something a little funky! This is one of my favorite color combinations.

I've had enough snow and cold. So, I've been in a springy color mood.

A leisurely walk along the river bank. The sun glinting off the water and something just below the surface. A river rock, worn smooth by the flowing water. I just love the organic look, feel and shape of these. They have been sanded and lightly buffed for a more natural look.

Inspired by a painting used in a monthly challenge for The Mellow Bead ebay group. Incorporates two of my favorite things, geometric shapes and florals. You can see the painting that inspired these beads on my blog: http://www.craftsbychrisonl...

Spring is my favorite season! I’m not even sure what kind of trees they are, but they have gorgeous pink blooms on them. When the blooms are almost spent and the wind blows, it looks like it’s snowing flower petals. Mother Nature really does put on quite a show.

Subtle summer florals. These were inspired by my purse (I can find inspiration almost anywhere. LOL!)

After drooling over Sheila Morley's Boogie Down beads, I knew I had to make a dancer bead. My daughter thought I should name the bead after her. (I hauled her to dance class many years and attended many dance recitals).

I took a local class on making Christmas ornaments with polymer clay about 15 years ago and fell in love. The last few years my focus has been polymer clay beads.

Beautiful Beads
Hi Chris, I just spent about 1/2 an hour in your gallery looking at all of you beautiful beads. I love your IKAT cane work, your florals and all your color combinations. I started out in polymer clay in 05 and I really miss it at times. Really great work! And thank you for nominating me! Lois
