Take too many Harlequin romances as a teen, throw in a sculpture of a couple about to kiss, mix it up with a generous bit of the love between long-married couples I know, and ice it with a poem about when Buddha and the Goddess met and melded. . .Whaddya get? Another one of those attempts by me to capture that which cannot be captured! Wait a minute, isn't that what every artist is trying to do? Trying to portray life, trying to compress it down to two dimensions or into a note of music? Okay, sculpting gets you another dimension, and life is literally three-dimensional if you think about what we see and touch. But how do you show "life"? How do you make your art live and breath and feel? You can't, I can't, even the great masters couldn't. . .but we can strive toward it, reach for it, get as close as possible AND THAT'S THE WHOLE POINT OF ART no matter whether it's realistic or abstract, isn't it?
*Thanks for reminding me about that movie, Tink. Didn't know you'd end up inspiring the name for one of my strange treasures, huh? Yep, Harold was truly older, and Maude was forever young!
This wasn't the first color combo I tried, as you'll see in the other pictures, but it seems to be the best for working in the flame. Ivory stays warm and reheats easily, and black loves to be sculpted.
Maude's hair flows, wrapping around Harold. Harold's hair is pulled back into a low ponytail.
Okay, he started out as a Buddha-type with a woman, but it just didn't work. I didn't even finish him/her, and it cracked on the mandrel. Still, he makes a striking picture, so I learned at least one thing--I like these colors together :)
This was my first try at combining two faces. I wanted them to meld into one, but they looked more separate. . .Told you my beads have personalities! These two refused to be anything other than individuals.
Well, this one was another failure, but not of its own fault. My clumsiness caused the problem! I left it laying on the kitchen counter. Thinner pieces of glass like his crown DO NOT take kindly to having a wad of keys thrown at them!
Ah, but I did love the way her hair waved his shoulders!
This idea is stuck in my brain. Gonna have to try it again sometime.
I keep trying to make this idea I have come to life. . .I want the female's hair to wrap around and shelter the male companion.
Nope, not Oliver and Jenny (or was she Jenni), yet. It's been many years since I read Love Story, and I was working from a fuzzy memory of the cover of the paperback.
He has a tear rolling down his cheek because he knows he can't do anything to save her.
She has a smile of contentment because she is living for the moment just soaking in his love.
He rests his head on her shoulder. She leans her head toward his.
This bead really does wraparound, with the faces wrapping about 2/3 of the way around the bead.
". . .and he was too old to rock 'n roll" Yep, I named this one while my husband was watching a Jethro Tull video.
But when I was making it, I was thinking about a couple who have three kids. Isn't it funny how things tie in to each other ?
Okay, if you were born anytime before 1980, then you can probably guess who this couple reminded me of as I was working :)
Well, she reminded me of Cher with her long face, long hair, long silhouette. So, I added a moustache to his mouth and a wide lapel for his collar.
The bottom of this bead ended up with a bump I didn't realize was there, but I had to show it to you anyway, because I love the way Cher turned out. Now, if I could just resist trying to add things--can't seem to get the look right for the guys.
Why is he winking?
Uh, huh, did ya catch that? He just looked mischievous as he came to life in the flame. . .Looked like he was up to something.
How did he talk me into giving him two girls?

Thanks for stopping by to visit with AngelinaBeadalina! I'm really just plain ol' Angie or Ang, but the catchy name does suit me in the sense that I'm a motormouth who loves to play with words almost as much as I love to play with glass! You can find me here at BeadArtists.org, in my Etsy shop, or in my daily blog. You can get links to those places at www.angelinabeadalina.com (click on it above). Please pardon the use of my "official" website as a traffic control signal at the moment-- at least, that's what it makes me think of when I look at it. . . lots of directions to other places where there are updates on a daily basis. Tech-stuff would not be one of those things that I love or that comes naturally to me ;) Well, enough rambling for now, come on in, look around. . . have fun exploring my glass experiments and ideas. Peace, Ang
